PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULE

OF THE SARASOTA COUNTY CANVASSING BOARD

FOR THE MARCH 15, 2016

PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE PRIMARY  

 

 

The Sarasota County Canvassing Board for the March 15, 2016 Presidential Preference Primary, Holiday Park Park & Recreation District Election and the Town of Longboat Bond Referendum is scheduled to meet as follows:

 

Wednesday, February 3, 12 noon – Orientation meeting

 

Wednesday, March 2, 9:00 a.m. – Logic and accuracy testing of a random sample of the tabulating equipment and reporting software to be to be fielded during early voting and on election day.

 

Friday, March 4, 8:30 a.m. – Initial absentee ballot canvass.

 

Friday, March 11, 1:00 p.m. – Canvass of absentee ballots continues.

 

Monday, March 14, 4:00 p.m. – Canvass of absentee ballots continues.  

 

Tuesday, March 15, 5:00 p.m. – Election day; canvass of absentee ballots continues.

 

Thursday, March 17, 5:00 p.m. – Provisional ballot canvass and unofficial results.

 

Friday, March 25, 4:30 p.m. – Canvass of UOCAVA ballots, certification of election, and selection of precinct and race to be audited during the post-election certification audit of the voting system.

 

Tuesday, March 29, 9 a.m. – Conduct of the post-election certification audit.

 

All meetings will take place at the Office of the Sarasota Country Supervisor of Elections, 1st floor, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida, and, in accordance with the Sunshine Law of Florida, are open to the public.

 

Pursuant to §101.68(2) (c) 2, If any elector or candidate present believes that an absentee ballot is illegal due to a defect apparent on the voter’s certificate, he or she may, at any time before the ballot is removed from the envelope, file with the canvassing board a protest against the canvass of that ballot, specifying the precinct, the ballot, and the reason he or she believes the ballot to be illegal. A challenge based upon a defect in the voter’s certificate may not be accepted after the ballot has been removed from the mailing envelope.

 

Unopened absentee ballots received prior to 8 a.m. on Friday, March 4 will be available for inspection from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on March 4. Thereafter and thru 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, unopened ballots will be available for inspection from 8 to 9 a.m. daily (excluding weekends) following the day of receipt.  Absentee ballots will be opened and processed immediately following each public inspection period. Any elector wishing to inspect unopened absentee ballots received after 8 a.m. on March 15 must be present throughout the day on March 15 as those ballots will be opened and processed upon receipt.  

 

Note:  §286.0105, Florida Statutes, states that if a person decides to appeal any decision by a board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at a meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
