House District 72 Special Election ballots scheduled for mailing
|SARASOTA, FL - Vote-by-mail ballots for the February 13, 2018 House District 72 Special Election will soon be in the mail to voters who have requests on file with the elections office, Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner announced today.
A total of 695 ballots will be mailed December 26 to absent uniformed services members and civilian voters residing overseas, Turner said. Absent military and overseas voters include all active-duty military personnel, their spouses and dependents who are absent from Sarasota County and overseas U.S. citizens.
More than 21,000 additional ballots are scheduled for mailing to domestic voters beginning January 9, Turner added. Following these initial mailings, requests will be processed and ballots mailed on a daily basis.
To request a vote-by-mail ballot, a voter may submit an online request at www.SarasotaVotes.com
Requests for ballots to be mailed must be received by the elections office no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7. Voted ballots may be returned by mail or in person, but must be received by the supervisor of elections no later than 7 p.m. on election day, February 13, to be counted. Turner reminds voters to return their ballots promptly to avoid postal service delays.
A voter, with the exception of uniformed services and civilian voters living overseas, who requests a ballot be mailed to an address other than the address on file in the Florida Voter Registration System, must submit a signed written request to the elections office.
Turner reminds voters that the signature on the vote-by-mail ballot certificate will be compared to the voter’s signature on file in the elections office for verification purposes. Voters may update their signatures by submitting a Florida Voter Registration Application to the supervisor of elections office. Signature updates for the February 13 election must be received prior to the start of the vote-by-mail canvass, which is Tuesday, February 6.
